I normally don't review textbooks, but this one is actually really good. It's easy to follow along with, and pretty interesting especially if you're interested in becoming a detective. Plus the author teaches at my school and is a laid back guy.Product details

The Criminal Investigative Function A Guide for New Investigators 2nd Edition eBook Joseph Giacalone Reviews
This book is an excellent resource for those interested and/or going into criminal investigations. I used it in Professor Giacalone's PSC207 class at John Jay...and it may be the easiest book out there to teach you what you need to know to develop some investigative skills and useful knowledge.
This book was not written for a law enforcement professional. The acronyms alone make this book a waste of time, too many and nonsensical. Only read it because it was required reading.

I had to study this book for an upcoming promotional exam. There are grammatical errors, informational errors and enough acronyms to kill a horse. The acronyms are unclear - acronyms should be one main word for each letter to make a point clear and concise. The author has decided to make sentences from his acronyms with any random word as the main letter of the acronym. I have been in the criminal investigation field for my entire career and had to actually learn elementary, sometimes incorrect methods in place of my 16 years of expertise just to get questions correct on promotional exam. Three quarters of the way through the book, I had the joy in learning the definition of a cotton swab. Thanks Joe. Very disappointed in this information. My next letter is to the NJ Civil Service Commission for choosing this book and deeming it "testable".
Great read, absolutely filled with great resources and information needed for investigations and their function. All facets are explained in detail.

Beautifully written by someone with decades of experience. Giacalone does a great job explaining the ins and outs of criminal investigations. He gives wonderful tips to investigators. Enjoy the read! I highly recommend it.
